Your Website Questions, Answered
Do I need a Shopify store or a custom website?
It depends on what your website needs to do. If you're running a product-based business with real inventory, shipping needs, and a high volume of transactions, Shopify is probably the better fit. If you're a service-based business, consultant, local business, or anyone whose website is primarily about telling your story and converting visitors into leads or clients, a custom website hosted through us is likely the smarter and more affordable choice. Can you build both Shopify stores and custom websites?
Yes. We offer both solutions and we'll help you figure out which one actually fits your business before anything gets built. We're not tied to one platform, which means our recommendation is always based on what's right for you, not what's easiest for us.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most builds are completed within 2-4 weeks from the time we receive your completed intake questionnaire and all content. Custom projects and larger Shopify stores may take longer depending on scope. We'll give you a clear timeline before we get started so there are no surprises.
What do I need to provide to get started?
Before we begin we'll have a consultation to talk through your business, your goals, and your vision. From there you'll complete our intake questionnaire and provide your website content including text, photos, and brand files. Don't have brand files yet? We can help with that too through our Brand Identity and Logo Design services.
Can I update my own website after it's built?
Yes. Both custom hosted websites and Shopify stores give you the ability to log in and make your own updates. With a custom hosted site your hosting plan also includes content update sessions where we make changes for you, so you have both options available. With Shopify you manage the store yourself or sign up for ongoing support.
Do I need to buy my own domain?
Yes. We recommend purchasing your own domain through Namecheap or GoDaddy. Owning your domain means it's always yours regardless of which platform you're on or what changes down the road. Once you have it we handle the connection and technical setup for you.
What if I already have a website and want to switch platforms?
Reach out and we can talk through what a migration or rebuild would look like for your specific situation. Whether you're moving from an old DIY site to a custom hosted build or from another platform to Shopify, we'll assess what can be carried over and what needs to be rebuilt and give you an honest picture of what's involved before you commit to anything.
Can you work with my existing logo and brand files?
Absolutely. If you already have a logo and brand identity we'll work with what you have. Just bring your files and we'll make sure everything translates properly to your new website. If your branding needs a refresh at the same time, we can handle that too through our Brand Identity services.
What happens after my website is built?
That depends on which path you chose. Custom hosted website clients move into a hosting and maintenance plan that keeps their site running, updated, and supported every month. Shopify clients manage their own store on Shopify's platform after launch, with optional ongoing support from us for things like SEO, blog writing, and consulting. Either way we'll walk you through exactly what happens next before your site goes live.
